The word poltergeist comes from the German words meaning noisy ghost. In most cases of poltergeist activity, there is one person known as an “agent” or “trigger” around whom the phenomena seems to revolve around. This is usually a female entering puberty although it can be a male and in rare cases, adults can be the focal point. The type of phenomena associated with poltergeist activity can range from objects being thrown around a room, furniture moving around a room and pounding in walls. True poltergeist outbreaks are usually short in duration, usually averaging 1 to 2 months. However, poltergeist activity may be a stepping stone to a demonic haunting. In this case, the problem can continue on indefinitely. Parapsychologists believe this phenomena to be Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis. (RSPK) The theory being that one person is actually causing the activity through random bursts of energy. The person involved usually does not know they are doing it. The agent seems to be the same as with a poltergeist. In cases of RSPK, the objects involved are usually light, under two pounds. In poltergeist activity, the objects can be quite large and heavy.

However, it should be pointed out that situations of great stress could result in this same type of cold without a drop in the actual temperature.
