THE AWESOME POWER OF PRAYER
Although there are skeptics everywhere, the above title is by itself, quite true. Prayer is both awesome and powerful. Yet it is something completely misunderstood. There are some who believe that prayer must be something found in a book. That type of prayer is fine, no question. Praying the Holy Rosary, for example is both calming and powerful. Novena's have helped millions through some dark hours. I am a great believer in formal prayer. However, there is great value in talking to God as a person too. Many has been the day where I started my morning saying something like: "God, I'm going to need Your help today." Is that a prayer? Sure it is. We are God's children. Doesn't it make sense that He just might like to hear from us as we would our children. Each day after work, after I make the impossible to make left turn from my job, I thank God for helping me through the day. I might say: "Thank you, Father, that was a tough one." I think He likes to hear that. I am sure He would rather hear that than hear nothing. Talk to Him. Talk to Him as if He was sitting next to you. He is, you know. Another misconception is that we should get everything we ask for. When we don't, we are quick to point out that God chose not to answer our prayer. Well, He answered it, it is just that the answer was no. But the Bible says: "Ask and you shall receive." Well, it does indeed but take a look at your past, an honest look and think about some of the things you asked for. If you are truly honest with yourself, you will see that in many cases had you gotten what you asked for, the results would have been catastrophic. God knows what is best for us even though we often disagree with Him. Now someone is going to ask me why their child had to suffer and die from some horrible disease or why someone close to them had to be killed in a tragic accident. In all honesty, I have asked that type of question many times myself and to be frank, I do not have an answer. I do not know why God does the things He does. I know He has a reason but we often never know what it was. In my field, I often ask why He allows demonic possession. There is a reason but we are not always going to know what it is. That is where faith and trust come from.
