An Update On Christina Boyer 1/24/06 As you can tell, I am very interested in the case of Christina Boyer. To me, there is nothing more heinous than someone who abuses God's little innocents. No punishment is too harsh for one who does that. In my mind, there is no doubt that Tina is innocent of the charges against her. If so, my wife and I would never have offered her the opportunity to live with us if and when she is paroled from prison. If you have doubts yourself about her innocence, please click on the links on my home page. James Conrad has put together an exceptional web page that should erase any doubts. Today, Tina is in Pulaski State Prison in Hawkinsville, GA. It is a minimum security facility and she is housed in an "honor dorm." That says something about her character. Just the same, she is suffering terribly. My wife and I write to her often and we speak to her every other week or so. We are only allotted ten minutes so my wife and I each get five minutes. Throughout our conversation, we are constantly reminded that "this call is being monitored or taped." One must learn to talk fast. Tina suffers from major medical problems but it is psychological ones that cause the most pain. Remember, she lost her only child needlessly. That is always on her mind. To make matters worse, she has spent 13+ years in prison for a crime she did not commit. As I said earlier, Mr. Conrad's page does an exceptional job proving her innocence. I have tried everything in my power to convince those in authority in Georgia to parole her. I will continue in that quest. I wrote to Governor Purdue and he answered me promptly. Unfortunately, he informed me he has no control over the Board of Pardons and Paroles. I believe him. I then wrote to the Board myself and received a curt reply saying that she was turned down for parole in 1999 and is due for review again in 2007. They went on to say that they will not review the case before then. I envision them warming up the rubber stamped marked "DENIED." Letters were sent to two State Senators but neither were answered. I sent a letter to District Attorney Peter Skandalakis, the only one who has any power with the Board but he chose not to answer my letter. I also sent one to her public "defender," Jimmy Berry. This was a man who basically let Tina rot in jail for over two years before taking any serious action. Perhaps the right to a speedy trial does not exist in Georgia. Last time I checked, they were still a part of the United States but I could be wrong. Mr. Berry had the results of a lie detector test, given by a court appointed examiner and paid for by the court. It showed conclusively that Tina had no role in the death of Amber. Berry only brought this up after her plea bargain was accepted for use by the Board of Pardons and Paroles. To this point, at least, they have not used it. Perhaps they never will. Mr. Berry did not respond to my letter, although I did not expect him to. He never responded to his clients letters or those of Dr. William Roll. Why would he answer mine? It is frightening when you think about it. It is quite possible that Tina Boyer will never be set free. The system failed miserably in this case. I am sure it has in others as well. But let me get back to Tina. Needless to say, she is suffering from a deep depression. Who wouldn't under the circumstances? She also takes anti-anxiety medication. Her only outlet is writing, drawing, (she is quite talented) and listening to her walkman. Of course, she also likes to read. She has a spotless record since she has been in prison. Why keep someone like her locked up for so long, especially under such curious circumstances. Is the crime rate in Georgia that low? From what I read, they have their hands full with real criminals. They should choose Berry as their lawyer. That way, they will get the long sentences they deserve. There appear to be a lot of problems in the Georgia Government. It appears that this has been so for a long time now. For those who live there, I hope that changes. I will keep you updated on Tina's legal situation as things develop or stand still. © 2006 T.
